Latte Art

What’s the coolest design you’ve seen a barista make in your coffee? I was at SteamDot Coffee Company, (10950 O’Malley Center), and Jared Mockli, who’s worked there about a year, designed a turkey. Mockli said there are four main designs, plus a few special ones for holidays, he can make in a process he calls latte art. It’s kind of an unintended benefit from the milk being steamed to a perfect 155 degrees, Mockli said.
As I watched, Mockli carefully tilted the cup to the side and rippled the milk forward and back, increasing and then decreasing, his pouring speed. A rosetta design was revealed. Mockli also showed me how to make a tulip, a heart and a rosetta, heart combination.
What have you seen? I’d love to see your photos of cool etchings or latte art. Send me your pictures so I can feature them on Alaska Bites! rpalsha@ktuu.com
